A real wonder of nature - over 22 million years ago, water and ice formed the Kaltbach Cave. Thanks to a lucky coincidence, in 1953 Cheese makers from the region discovered that the Cave's unique characteristics let the cheese mature in a way that is worldwide unique.

Emmi AG is headquartered in Lucerne and is the largest milk processing company in Switzerland. In 1907, 62 cooperatives founded the Central Swiss Milk Association Lucerne (MVL), which for the first time produced Emmi soft cheese and yoghurt in 1947 under the brand name Emmi AG and finally founded Emmi AG in 1993.
